About Kind Carver
Wood, ideas & the unexpected
I’m a Kansas City wood artist and maker creating one-of-a-kind artwork, custom woodwork, gifts, signs, and other pieces from wood and reclaimed materials. Some projects begin with a clear idea; others start with an interesting piece of wood and a feeling that there’s something hiding inside it.
I’m drawn to reclaimed wood, firewood, unusual grain, knots, cracks, and imperfections. Rather than forcing the material into a predetermined shape, I let its character influence the finished piece.
Letting the material have a say
My work combines wood carving, burning, engraving, color, and texture. I might start with a photograph, sketch, logo, family story, or simple theme, but I rarely know exactly where the finished piece will end up.
The process is less about forcing wood to become something and more about discovering what it can become.
From wood art to custom work
I create reclaimed wood sculptures, wooden wall art, bowls, custom carvings, signs, personalized gifts, pet portraits, and laser-engraved pieces. Some are artistic experiments; others are made around a particular person, memory, business, or place.
If your idea doesn’t fit neatly into a standard category, that’s often where the fun begins.
Made in Kansas City
Kansas City is home, and it naturally finds its way into my work. I create pieces inspired by local neighborhoods, landmarks, history, culture, and everyday life, as well as custom artwork for people and businesses connected to KC.
Why Kind Carver?
I believe making things should be curious, imperfect, human and humane. I don’t want every piece to look mass-produced. I want the material, the process, and the person behind the idea to leave their mark.
Sometimes the piece turns out exactly as planned. Sometimes the wood has other ideas. Those are usually my favorite pieces.
